Sean Hamilton –
I have found myself in many different worlds and have had my eyes set on many different career paths since beginning my life in the “Real World” aka my employment journey. I started out working as a cashier with dreams of running a small web development shop and how I have changed so much since then. After achieving supervisor at the store and getting a glimpse into web development working with Montague Web Works(MWW) I saw the amount of stress and frustration that goes into such a thing and found myself searching for a new path. Post covid MWW downsized and laid me off I moved onto a 2nd shift factory job and took my shot at the stock market, after some considerable grinding I was able to buy myself a car and expand my options for employment and space to live. This is where I took a big leap quitting the 2nd shift job and starting doordash. I did doordash for almost a year using all of the free time to find my passions and search for a steady job while making more money than I am getting paid today. This is where I got into the cannabis industry at The Human Connection, DMC, Sun Honey, DCC, Farm Dog, or whatever name you may know this company by. Here I got to see all of the different parts of the cannabis operations machine, I started off harvesting in cultivation, Occasionally stopping in the green house to up pot and help out. I then moved from there to production where I Filled qc and packed vapes. DMC then branched out to start a preroll department and I was able to help them develop some processes working with the preroll lead alone and was even half offered the preroll lead position before I applied for a lab assistant position in the same company. Here is where I learned so many intricate processes done in this industry such as Extraction(Butane, Ethanol, Propane, Bubble Hash), Distilation, crystallization, CRC, and more. I also learned not only how to operate these machines but how to maintain and troubleshoot them as we had secondhand machines they would tend to throw errors and need servicing from time to time. After DMC I found an amazing position at Temple Hill Collective doing essentially the same work but I was working with high end tools and equipment and working under an an amazing chemist. Here I was able to refine my extraction skills in a much more relaxed environment were I felt I could ask any questions and I would get an answer one way or another. Here I learned the importance of a roto evaporator in the cannabis space and how useful an ultrasonic cleaner can really be. I did spend alot of time cleaning dishes but in between that I would be running the X-10 Butane extractor, Running the 2L and 20L rotovaps, Distilling using the Summit Research 6L still, winterizing ethanol extract, and packing socks to extract. Reluctantly do to financial and personal reasons I had to find a job closer to home and I found my favorite job to date. Working with Fernway has been amazing in every job related aspect, I never feel overworked, like I have to do anything I don’t want to and I feel I can go to anyone in the company for life advice or just a chat if I need. Though is has been fun I have learned little in my time here but I am focusing in on some finer things such as vape QC, preroll(packing and QC), vape filling, and formulation. Now I may be looking for the next step in my journey Fernway has given me a long list of requirements my next employer needs to check of before I would think about leaving.
